90-year-old Victor Fotso re-elected CVUC president

Business mogul and Mayor of Pete Bandjoun, Victor Fotso, has been re-elected West Region President of the united councils and towns of Cameroon, a post he has held for 18 years.

The association of mayors, better known in French as ‘Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun, CVUC, also has Divisional and Subdivisional bureau representatives.

The results of their election were proclaimed during the General Assembly of the association, held in the conference hall of Fotso’s residence last weekend.

Other elected members of CVUC-West Region are Ndapeyouene, Mayor of Malentouen of UDC, Secretary General; Tchomtchoua Djadjo, Mayor of Banwa (CPDM), Assistant Secretary General; Desire Bibetche, Mayor of Tonga (CPDM), Treasurer; Jules Focka Foucka, Mayor of Bafoussam I (CPDM), Adviser; Tagne Ngeko, Mayor of Bafoussam II (SDF), Auditor; Koumdoum, Mayor of Bamendjou, amongst others.

Mayor Courteses Ketcha Celestine is the Divisional President. Addressing members at the General Assembly, Fotso accepted the result of the election, which was conducted in his absence, saying he had hoped for a serious challenger.

“From all indications, my colleagues want me to continue to lead the association, I accept and my doors are open for any initiative that can help develop our region and beloved country”, the Fotsso said.

He enjoined his collaborators to continue to support the Head of State in his vision of an emerging Cameroon and efforts made to ensure peace in the country.

The General Assembly was equally an opportunity to project into activities of the third edition of the exhibition of Councils in the West, known as SACO 15, that will take place from March 16 to 24, under the theme “Potentialities and Development of the West Region by the year 2020.”

According to a communiqué, SACO has as objective to present a shared economic vision of councils in the West Region to national and international institutions, development partners and economic operators, amongst others.

Innovations during the third edition that is expecting to host more than 150 exhibitors and 10,000 visitors, include, among other things; the putting in place of free buses to transport participants, students from the University of Dschang to the exhibition ground and the exchange of experiences between the mayors from other regions and those from the West.
