75,000 new voters registered by Elecam

Elections Cameroon (Elecam), the body in charge for the organization and the supervision of elections, registered 75,817 new voters since the beginning of the month of January 2014 until June 30 of this year.

Males constitute the majority of these new registrants (45,163) compared to women (30,654), according to information submitted by the Director general of Elections, Samuel Fonkam Azu'u, at the third regular session of the electoral Council of Elecam on July 9 in Yaoundé.

These inscriptions fit in the context of the revision of the lists of electorates required by the Cameroonian electoral Code. Article 74 of the code prescribed a permanent annual revision of the lists of electorates from January 1 to August 31.

The last phases of review of the electoral lists had been closed in July 2013 for the Organization of the legislative and municipal elections. At this date, the national electoral registry had consolidated up to 5,481,266 voters.
