7 decrees signed for creation and rehabilitation of schools

Seven Decrees have been signed on the establishment (80) and the rehabilitation (86) of a total of 166 schools across all the 10 regions, by the Prime Minister, Philemon Yang, on Thursday, August 20, 2015.

The complete details have been provided below:

- The creation of 47 Secondary Education Colleges (CES) with 5 in Adamawa, 9 in the Centre, 3 in the East, 9 in the Far North, 2 in the Littoral, 5 in the North, 10 in the North West , 3 in the West and 1 in the South and Southwest;

- The establishment of 33 Technical Training Colleges, Industrial and Commercial (CETIC) including 1 in Adamawa (Littoral and in the northwest), 10 in the Centre, 4 in the East, 3 in the Far North and North, 7 in the North West, 4 in the West and 2 in the South;

- The rehabilitation of 42 Junior High Schools to Senior High Schools will have 3 high schools in Adamawa; Centre will have 8, 1 for the East, South, Southwest and West; 2 in the North and Littoral, 9 in the North West and finally 14 in the Far North;

- The transformation of 10 Junior High School to Bilingual in the Northern Region;

- Some of these 10 Bilingual Junior High Schools will be transformed into bilingual Secondary Schools with 2 in Adamawa, 1 in the Far North and North West, 2 in the Littoral, North and West;

- The transformation of 15 CETIC in Technical High Schools at a rate of 2 to the North, the Centre and the Far North, 1 in the South West, 3 in the North West and 5 in the West;

- The transformation of 18 schools of general education in bilingual secondary schools will have 1 in the South, 2 in the South West, the North, Northwest and Far North; 4 in the West and 5 in the Center.

For the 2015/2016 new school year, which starts on Monday September 7, the Cameroonian educational setting is thus enriched with 80 new schools. CETIC will have 33 and CES, 47. Meanwhile, 86 existing schools will have their statutes changed.

Now, the only hope is that it goes beyond simple Decrees to realizations. The fact is that Senior High Schools have more students and teachers than Junior High Schools. Presently, the Junior High Schools have four grades; that is from the 6th form to the 3rd.

After the makeover, the next issue to tackle will be equipping the new technical schools and training centers CETIC with laboratories, workshops and other facilities or adequate equipment for practical exercises which is essential for those educational institutions.

Finally, the recruitment of new teachers and principals for the 80 new schools and 86 other reformed will have to include some activities in the coming days.
