50 houses have been demolished at Mvog Ada, a populous area of the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé, as part of a reorganization process decreed by the Urban Community.

The operation, which aims to identify the marshy and flood areas during the rainy season, has already seen a hundred homeless.

According to the technical services of the Yaoundé City Council, those whose houses were destroyed had received a demolition notice from the council a month ago but failed to comply.

Other areas classified 'dangerous' are Mvog-Betsi, Corneiller and Etam-Bafia, are also known to experience disruptions in the coming days.

According to several people interviewed by APA, the Yaoundé Urban Community often performs this type of operation “with ‘pun intended’ to identify sites deemed uninhabitable but are sold to wealthy people who make residential areas out of it after the operation”.
