A 5 storey building under construction collapsed shortly after 8:30 am (7GMT) at Nkogmondo, a popular district in Douala, according to a 35-year old eyewitness, Eboa.
The building collapsed like a house of cards, “we heard a very loud noise and we were just on time to see the building collapse before our eyes. Firefighters arrived some 30 minutes after. At the moment, no loss in human life has been recorded,” noted our eyewitness.
Other corroborating sources claimed that the building was under construction, therefore not inhabited. For experts, it was a work made under amateur conditions, “the architect did not meet the rules of construction of modern living standards. The building was built in a marshy place with a single pole to support the entire building. The houses and residents suffered collateral damage.”
The human toll is still expected.
