President Paul Biya has called for the holding of the 4th General Census of Population and Housing, 10 years after the third which took place in 2005.

The decision was held on September 15 and since then several consultations have started at various levels to ensure the proper conduct of this exercise, and to avoid failures at the final preparations.

Already, the BUCREP began broadcasting its wishes to be up to the task. In the pages of The Daily Economy of Wednesday, October 7, 2015, we learn that at a meeting on the population census on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, chaired by Emmanuel Djoumessi Nganou then Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Planning, Bernadette Mbarga, the BUCREP CEO had raised a number of difficulties, including human resource.

The DG of BUCREP indicated that the strength of 74 personnel at all ranks that make up the structure is unable to achieve this important operation. She suggested the gradual recruitment of about 30,000 temporary workers throughout the process.

Although the Director of BUCREP said the pilot census card that is like a compass for any census is already available and what remains to be resolved is the problem of financial resources which seems to be lacking so far, informs the newspaper.

Aside labor, Bernadette Mbarga also raised the issue of funding. As in 2005, the BUCREP relied on the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This UN structure has contributed to over 12% of the budget of the third population and housing census of 2005. According to The Daily of Economy, the availability of these funds could give a boost to the process and lead towards the actual start of BUCREP census in November 2016.
