2016 Olympics: Paul Biya invited to the opening ceremony

The Prime Minister, Philemon Yang, welcomed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Luiz Mauro Vieira Lecker, yesterday in Yaoundé.

The latter had with him the invitation of President Rousseff addressed to Paul Biya, inviting him to take part in the opening ceremony of the 31th Olympic Games hosted by Brazil in August 2016.

According to Cameroon Tribune, the 30 minutes meeting allowed Philemon Yang and his guest to tour the horizon of bilateral cooperation between Cameroon and Brazil. At the end, the Brazilian diplomat said that "we have excellent political relations," while expressing the wish that they extend in the same way in the economic field.

Cameroon Tribune indicated that Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira, also stressed on the solidarity of the Brazilian people to the Cameroonians faced with the fight against terrorism and the Boko Haram sect.

"Brazil is a signatory to all international agreements in the fight against terrorism and the Cameroon government can count on her support in the fight against terrorism and insecurity," concluded the Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs of Brazil in his 48-hour visit.

The city of Rio de Janeiro will be the first to host the event in South America, and the third to be held in the southern hemisphere after Melbourne ( Australia, 1956) and Sydney (Australia, 2000).

It will also be the first Olympic Games to be held in a Portuguese-speaking country. This event will bring together the best athletes in all Olympic disciplines. But it will also be an opportunity for meetings between personalities from around the world.
