Two Cameroonian truckers were killed after they were attacked on the Bangui-Douala corridor, on Tuesday.
Their convoy came under massive gun fire by an armed gang, which is still unclear whether it was anti-Balaka or Seleka operating deep within the Central African Republic. Some of the drivers caught by bullets were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Cameroonian truck drivers ensured the supply of much-needed products from Cameroon to the Central African Republic including imports from the port of Douala.
The Tuesday incident came just a few months after the death of one of the drivers killed by the anti-Balaka militant group. The Union of Cameroonian truck drivers had observed a strike action which led to food shortages in major cities in the Central African Republic.
The UN peacekeepers and the authorities promised to strengthen security measures on the Bangui-Douala corridor.
