The Cameroonian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Essimi Menye, has inaugurated the official launch of a project to support the cultivation of fruit trees with a sum of 178.5 billion FCfa.

The ceremony was conducted on July 28, 2015 in Yaoundé. Part of the fund for the project was made available by FAO for the pilot phase but the government will mobilize the largest part of the fund.

According to these initiators, the project to support the development of the cultivation of fruit trees is to multiply the number of orchards in production ponds mainly located in the central regions (departments of Lékié and Mbam and Inoubou), Adamawa (departments of la Viña and Mayo-Danay), Extrême-Nord (Department of Diamaré) and Northern region (departments of Bénoué, and of Mayo Louti).

Cooperatives, Joint Initiatives Groups (Gics) and industrialists who will engage in the establishment of these orchards, will receive multifaceted support from the project for the establishment of processing units.

The proponents emphasized that the goal is to see Cameroon become exporter of juice by 2025.
