The concessionaire of the water sector, Camerounaise Des Eaux (CDE), a subsidiary of the Moroccan group and the national Office of drinking water (ONEP), have completed the 15000 connections in Cameroon after seven years.

This was disclosed at the end of the second foundation of the Scientific and Technical Council (CST) of the African Association of water (AAE) on Thursday in Douala.

This improvement in the supply of drinking water will particularly benefit large urban centres in the cities of Douala and Yaoundé with nearly 10000 new connections.

“This work required an investment of about 15 billion FCFA but the project extension for safe drinking water needs to continue the,” said officials of the company.

However, the CRC informed that, the objective to cover 50 per cent of the Cameroonian population by 2020 is far from being achieved since only 35 per cent of Cameroonians have access to portable drinking water.
