15 new Agropoles in 2015

The specialized animal and crop production program, Agropoles will add 15 new operational units to supply the local market and promote the processing and export of local products.

The addition, will add to the 17 existing ones making it a total number of 32.

Fresh fish from Bankim, in the region of Adamawa, now finds itself on the stalls in Yaoundé. Kribiennes known for the production of pork ribs without the grease came as the next option for many with a promotional price of FCFA 2200 per kg. A time where the price of locally produced kg bars was FCFA 4000. These are some of the achievements by the Agropole program last year during its operations.

"The program is to expand the local brands. We were able to fill in 9% maize deficit. We organized year-end promotional sales of pork in Yaoundé and Douala and we could expand this to the Coastal area”, says the National Program Coordinator of Agropole, Adrian Ngo'o Bitomo.

Furthermore, he said, "breaking of eggs at the local level as well as the price is stable, despite the fact that more eggs are sold in Cameroon, Guinea and Gabon”.

Also, at Bonomo in Douala, soybean oil is produced locally and chicken stored on cold rooms have been made available to the people. These achievements are those of 17 Agropoles which have been operation since 2013.

In terms of funding, the program first depends on the producers. "The money is available," says Adrian Ngo'o Bitomo. “It is conditioned by the contribution of the producers themselves who fund up to 60%. "We help them to make progress according to their effort and dedication. More is expected from them now that the project managers provide 60% of the budget." The coordinator said
