A hundred Cameroonian artistes presented on Sunday a giant show to say "Stop Boko Haram" on the occasion of the music day in Yaounde, learned AFP.
The show started around 4 p.m. at the forecourt of the national museum, with more than 2,000 people. There were more than 100 singers, comedians and humorists present.
"Stop Boko Haram" could be read on a giant poster hung on the stage. It was "a great show of mobilization for the defence forces who are committed at the front against Boko Haram ", said the master of ceremonies at the opening of the event.
This initiative also aims to support "all victims of this infamous war that is imposed on us", he added. "Boko Haram out. Get out, get out! ", sung one of the artists, Prince André, who performed a song called "no to Boko Haram".
"I always ask myself the question: who funds Boko Haram?", he asked, stating that members of the sect "are well armed".
The entrance to the show was free but the organizers invited the public to attend a fundraiser for people of the far North, victims of the assaults by Boko Haram, and the Cameroonian soldiers deployed in the area.
For several weeks, the Cameroonian official media continue to announce fundraising in the regions and departments. A Government Committee was created to ensure a "transparent" management of these funds. Cameroonians have already contributed 2.1 billion CFA francs (more than 3 million euros), recently announced by the Committee.
Hundreds of tons of food have also been handed over to the army for soldiers deployed on the ground. Cameroon officially entered August 1, 2014 the war against Boko Haram. The region of the far - north of Cameroon was the scene of many attacks by the Islamist group. Two Cameroonian soldiers were killed during a mid-May attack.
Nigerian Islamists, who have suffered severe setbacks since the outbreak in early February of a regional ground offensive - involving the Chadian and Nigerian - armies, nevertheless retain positions along the Cameroono-Nigerian border, in Sambisa forest and in the Mandara mountains.
