Cameroonian film in Hollywood competition

‘Waka’, the work of the Cameroonian Director, Françoise Ellong, will be screened at the 19th edition of the Film Festival in the United States.

The consecration that the Waka movie will gain is without doubt. The first feature of the Cameroonian Director, Françoise Ellong, is in the official selection at the Hollywood Film Festival, which will take place from September 23 to 27 in the United States.

It will be screened in the Hollywood cinemas, Arclight d and Beverly Hills. The film continues a course since its official release in 2014. A Special prize from the jury at the 17th edition of the Festival of African Cinema at Khouribga in Morocco, Dikalo Award for encouragement, first work to feature at the 11th edition of the international Festival of Pan African film in Cannes, are some prices won by this film directed with little means.

This film was projected at the opening of the 17th edition of the Ecrans Noirs festival in Yaoundé. Night film special channel + during the Journées Cinématographiques of African Women (Jcfa-Fespaco) in Burkina Faso, retained in the official selection at the international Festival of films from the African diaspora (Peterbaysah 2014) in Paris, Waka also participated in the international Festival of women and development in Rabat, Morocco.

The film directed by Françoise Ellong has been presented on so many platforms. The plot of the film is passionate. Waka, is in fact the story of Mathilde, young single mother who in order to meet the needs of her son, embarks on prostitution by becoming a 'waka '.
At night, Mathilde becomes Maryline, a person that her son Adam does not know. But his entourage destroyed this mother-son relationship. According to the Director, the film had received a favourable reception from film critics upon its release.

"M.Ngangue Ebelle (Director of the international Festival of the Pan-African film) after watching the film, made a critical detail that I will not forget. As a filmmaker, it's very nice to have feedback that shows you that a person had a lot of interest in the story you want to tell and how you came up with it," said Françoise Ellong, on the eve of her participation as a member of the jury at the international pan-African film Festival.

At the age of 27, Françoise Ellong has participated in 18 festivals, competed in 6 competitions, won 4 and traversed 12 countries. Her ambitions are still as great for one that will represent the Cameroonian film in Hollywood, the world capital of cinema.
