Two West Region cooperatives get agricultural markets

Since last Thursday, cooperatives and other organizations wishing to benefit from the investment services project and development of agricultural markets (Pidma) now know what to expect.

A technical meeting with the National Coordinator, Thomas Ngue Bissa and the Regional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development, Martin Tazanou, officially launched the Pidma in the Western Region.

Participants were introduced to Pidma and how it intends to operate Phase Q of the project and also to enlighten officials present on the cooperative project.

According to Fréderic Yongue Simou, West and Northwest Pidma coordinator, two cooperatives have already been targeted in the Western Region. This is the cooperative of Corn Producers in Foumbot (Noun division) and Galim (department Bamboutos). The Pidma signed contracts with both cooperatives and must provide the necessary support to enable them to meet the needs of both quantity and quality identified in agribusiness, they are the Company's feed mill in Cameroon and the Cooperative Production broilers. The innovation here is simple: the cooperatives produce to meet demand.

"It means that people no longer look for where to sell produce. There is a buyer already clearly identified," says Frederic Yongue Simou. These cooperatives will become real farms and the Pidma will achieve its goal. The project ends in 2019.

The retired commander Jean René Jewoh, PCA of the cooperative of Bangangté Corn Producers estimates that the Pidma dream will fill many expectations if it really sets up. He explains that the cooperative produced 7,000 tonnes of maize per year over an area of 2,000 hectares. With Pidma they aspire to bring their production in the next five years to 60 000 tonnes per year over an area of 10,000 hectares. It also welcomes the financial support that Pidma brings to foster the competitiveness of products that cooperatives are set up for.
