According to an article in the "Cameroonian Press review" of the Groupement Inter Employers of Cameroon (Gicam) dated Wednesday, August 5, 2015, the first bags of MEDECEM cement, the future of Turkish cement, should be on the market at the end of August "If all conditions are met".

The new Turkish cement plant is expected to go operational in a few weeks at the Essengue neighborhood in the port area in Douala, Wouri department in the Littoral region. It will have a capacity of around 600,000 bags of cement per year.

Ahead of the start of the Medecem, a group of three Turk investors led by Omar Faruk Dogan, the Turkish ambassador in Cameroon was received in audience on Friday, July 31, 2015 by Joseph Beti Assomo, the governor of the Littoral region.

At the end of the hearing, the Turkish diplomat said among other things to the press that "the most effective way to block the way for the rise of extremism is to enhance the nature of investments in the fight against youth unemployment and reduce poverty." He also added that Cameroon must "take this position to play its leading role and contribute to curb the terrorist sect Boko Haram."

Following the Turkish ambassador to Cameroon, Ozbey Tahar, the head of the delegation of three investors, said that construction of the plant for Medecem is already 90% complete, and the raw material for cement production will come from Turkey.
