The cocoa-coffee sector close the year 2014-2015 on a slight upturn

Cocoa produced in Cameroon, for the 2014-2015 campaign is estimated at about 230 000 tons, according to a report from the National Directorate of Banque des États de l'Afrique centrale (BEAC).

These estimates were confirmed by internal sources at the inter-professional Council of cocoa and coffee. Although this volume of production does not reach the record of 240 000 tons achieved at the end of the 2010-2011 campaign, it is largely an increase from 209 000 tonnes in the year 2013-2014.

According to the same source, with coffee, we are very far from the 17,000 tons in the year 2012-2013 and over 32 000 tonnes of the last campaign. The BEAC stressed that if all the production is cost accounted, producing coffee in Cameroon should reach 40,000 tons in 2014-2015 as originally proposed by the actors of the sector and the Cameroonian authorities.

Moreover, these volumes must be at least tripled over the next five years, so they can reach the production targets in its stimulus of the cocoa-coffee sectors by the year 2020.

This plan projects a cocoa production of 600,000 tons as compared to185 000 tonnes for coffee including 150,000 tons for the robusta variety and 35,000 tons for arabica.
