Ahead of the International Transport Fair that starts on June 23, industrial operators have been sensitized on the quality and modernization of equipment, on Monday in Yaoundé.

The meeting was organized in preparation for the second edition of the International Exhibition for Transport and Logistics Cameroon (Sitralc) from 23 to 27 June in Yaoundé. An event welcomed by the Ministry of Transport.

The Minister took advantage of the dialogue to sensitize potential exhibitors on the importance of the forum as an appropriate setting to present their products, talk about their expertise and quality and performance to gear their guests.

"92% of Cameroon's cars consists of second hand acquired vehicles. These vehicles are over 15 years old and those who supply them to the market are not queried,” the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport, Mefiro Oumarou reported on Monday in Yaoundé during a conciliation meeting with the operators of land, sea, air and rail transport and related national and international activities.

According to him, the quality and performance of vehicles is crucial to provide social welfare and a serene environment. He said the Cameroon government will do everything to discourage importation of old vehicles.

During this exchange platform between public and private actors, he reviewed all regulations that the State has put in place in the sector. The forum was also an opportunity where operators could acquire new vehicles.

At the conciliation meeting, partnership relations between traders and dealers were also discussed. It was made clear that transport cannot be done without the support of these partners. They should not be mere sellers but assist carriers by getting involved in the operation.

"We need better vehicles to improve technical performance. The interview panel will also be on the discussion table in that regard”, Oumarou said.

In this regard, representatives of Camair-co, Turkish Airlines and Camrail talked about their performance and strategies to ensure safety. Their new acquisitions, infrastructure and planned prospects were also highlighted.

Mefiro Oumarou encouraged investment by foreign airlines in Cameroon. "One of these landing airlines brought FCFA 150 million into the State’s coffers," he concluded.
