Cameroon and the Indian firm, Proventure Energy, will sign an agreement for the development, investment and the installation of a photovoltaic solar plant of 100 megawatts in Cameroon, according to the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

This revelation was made after an official visit to the official representatives of the company in Cameroon, during which meetings were held with Prime Minister Philemon Yang on an interdepartmental working group and the sector's Regulatory Agency Electricity (ARSEL).

According to the Prime Minister, trade has particularly focused on the review of pre-feasibility studies, as well as the feed-in energy prices which led to the signing of a final agreement between the parties.

Proventure Energy also outlined its vision to Cameroonian policymakers of medium and long term, globally acting on investment in renewable energy, capital inflows and training of engineers in the field.

However, this is not the first project of this kind envisaged in Cameroon.

The Ministry in charge of Water and Energy announced the launch of a photovoltaic solar energy project at a cost of FCFA 53 billion, funded by China Eximbank, whose 1st phase for a construction of 13,000 rural communities for 350 areas in the 10 regions of the country.

It was the first project of its kind to be truly implemented in Cameroon, after several similar ads and unanswered aftermath including the Swiss company Cresson Lux & Associates or the South African GSC Energy Ltd.

Cameroon had a serious crisis in the supply of electrical energy for about 15 years, which increased for nearly a year and costing the country a lot, according to the business community.
