25 small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in the 2nd and 3rd wood processing sectors received training and certificates on response techniques for public tenders for works and supply of wood products.

The closing ceremony of the workshop that took place friday in Yaounde was chaired by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP), Zechariah Perevet in the presence of his counterpart from the Youth and Civic Education (Minjec) Bidoung Mkpatt.

Participants from five regions have been enlightened on four modules; the architecture of the public procurement system in Cameroon, the composition of the types of records bidding and access to these markets. It was also about giving the managers of these SMEs methodology responses to public tenders. The fourth module focused on the development of quantitative and cost estimate for the work and supplies of wood products.

The purpose of this training co-funded by France and the Interprofessional Grouping of artisans (Gipa), according to Lassina Traore, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was willing to make these entrepreneurs “enjoy the setting under instruction of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, which now requires the use of at least 50% of local wood in public works contracts and supply of wood products."

The spokesman of the participants said the training was timely to meet the needs of entrepreneurs. "There are many opportunities but we were not equipped enough to respond to tenders."
