Prime Minister to inaugurate Dangote Cement factory in Douala today

Philemon Yang, Prime Minister of Cameroon, will inaugurate the Dangote cement factory that has a production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes, today in Douala.

With an investment of FCFA 50 billion, the cement plant built on the banks of the Wouri by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, aims to capture 30% of the Cameroonian market in 2015 which is currently dominated by Lafarge.

After Cameroon, the richest man in Africa aspires to conquer the entire Central African region, building his second cement plant in Yaoundé (also 1.5 million tonnes). He personally announced this new plant on July 2, 2015 during a meeting with the head of government in Yaoundé.

On August 26, 2015, the CEO of Dangote Group, the Indian Edwin Devakumar, officially announced that the group will soon sign contracts for a total amount of 4.34 billion dollars (more than FCFA 300 billion) with Chinese company, Sinoma International's Engineering Co, for the construction of new plants in eight countries in Africa and Asia, including Cameroon.
