The Ministry of Commerce (Mincommerce) has initiated a caravan of promotional sales of commodities for the Muslim community through mosques to assist them in this period of Ramadan fast.

The exercise which began on June 17 included items like rice, sugar, flour, soap, mineral water, canned and other necessary items they will need.

The distribution was done in different mosques in Yaoundé and the Central Region, daily day from 8 am to 1pm and from 1 pm to 5 pm respectively, except on Sundays.

It was not only appreciated by the Muslim community but also by economic operators, who saw it as a means of broadening their market (customers) and at the same time retain those already acquired.

The regional delegate of the Mincommerce explained, “We want to satisfy everyone, mainly Muslims. However, Christians can also profit".

"To do this, we have been educated to find out the best measures to take in order to facilitate the access of necessary goods popular in this period", said Nicanor Zakaria, regional delegate of Mincommerce for the Centre.

A wide smile was on the face of Mariama O., a resident of Eton Nkol, Yaoundé on that Friday. This housewife was able to purchase goods in large quantities and at a good price from the periodic market which opened in the vicinity of the mosque in the corner.

She had in her basket, rice, flour, pasta and sugar. “This initiative is God sent at this time of fasting in the month of Ramadan. After the breaking of the fast, there is the need to prepare large quantities of food to satisfy everyone at home. This will require a large budget”.

“I have to save money," added Mariama O.

Yaoundé, Soa and Makénéné among others already received the caravan. The sale will take place along the Ramadan fast. It ends on July 18.
