More than 15,000 operators are waiting in ‘vain’ to be cleared of their savings, called rebate by Société Anonyme des Brasseries du Cameroun for over a few months now, according to the daily La Nouvelle Expression, Thursday, August 20, 2015.

"The lock imposed by the SABC in the payment of rebates is as a result of a circular from the Directorate-General of taxes signed on January 18, 2015, requiring the suspension of such rebates to beneficiaries not registered and whose names do not appear on the national file," reported the newspaper.

Meanwhile, M. Mouafo, operator of a drinking spot at the Biyem-Assi neighbourhood in Yaoundé considered being in good standing. "I have my taxpayer's card issued by the Yaoundé X tax center which is the unit of collection of taxes in my area, and I am told that I am not recognized in the national file, reason why they cannot pay me my rebates", he complained.

The fact is that, according to a recent study conducted by IMB, "90% of beverage operators have false taxpayer cards.”

Faced with the intransigence of the SABC and the DGI, the president of the Union of beverage operators, Roger Tapa Tchiesso called for an understanding.

"In the implementation of this directive, there are more than 15,000 members whose cheques are blocked at the SABC, for the simple reason that they are not yet in the national file. We came imploring with the competent authorities, the opportunity for their members to withdraw their cheques to prepare for the forth coming school year," he implored

In addition to this complaint, beverage operators also requested a further extension of the deadline for registration on the national registry. "We propose that you give us, for instance, until 1 January 2016 so that we can register our members", pleaded Roger Tapa Tchiesso

In response, the representative of the Directorate-General of taxes, Philippe Tenanje, instructed the operators that "only the hierarchy will decide”.
