Inspection of classified institutions, the 2015 campaign launched

The 2015 classified establishments inspection campaign was launched Monday June 15, 2015, in Yaoundé, under the coordination of the Minister of Mines, industry and technological development (Minmidt). Programmed on the national territory, the operation targets the first, second and third class establishments which are not in good standing.

According to experts, first class institutions (oil companies or breweries) represent the most dangerous, taking into account the type of activities that are conducted and devices used.

Second class institutions (gas stations, hardware stores, bakeries...) pose moderate danger and those of third class have quickly controllable dangers.

First class facilities will be checked by inspectors of central services, institutions of second class by the inspectors of regional services, and departmental services inspectors shall monitor those in third-class.

"The campaign is continuing and will extend until the introduction of new provisions," said the Deputy Director of industrial risks in the Minmidt, Bagoutou Djembele, quoted in the national daily newspaper on Tuesday.

These tours will detect irregularities that will be listed in reports and forwarded to the Committee for operation. Should a malfunction occur, inter alia, accident, explosion, investigations will be opened to assess the causes, damages and establish responsibilities. The first sanction is a formal notice.

"If the inspected operator is not working according to the rules, we give notice so that it conforms to regulations," said Bagoutou Djembele. After the deadline, the Minister in charge of classified institutions may proceed, by Decree, with the closure of this establishment as at the time of the start of the rule.

The new approach established by the Prime Minister in his Decree of August 20 on the reorganization of this activity, is designed to meet the concerns expressed by business leaders at the recent Cameroon Business forum held last March.

The objective is to improve the business climate in Cameroon. This improvement, according to them is through the coherence and coordination of the activities of inspection of classified establishments.
