General Electric and Environmental and Chemical Corporation (ECC) launched a new 55,000 m3 per day treatment plant in Akomnyada on June 4, 2015 in addition to another water treatment facility (100,000 m3/day) which was already stationed at the site.

Slated to take 18 months, the project is being financed to the tune of 32 billion FCFA by Exim Bank USA with the main planner being Société générale in Paris, stated Camwater Managing Director, Jean Williams Sollo.

With 55,000 m3 of water per day, the plant will supply Yaoundé with 200,000 m3 of drinking water per day (instead of the current 100,000 m3) in appreciation the 50,000 m3 it will receive from another water treatment plant currently being completed by Geofor.
