French media group, Canal +, is negotiating a commercial offer with Cameroonian cable operators and the National Communication Council (NCC) plays the role of a facilitator for an agreement.

The regulatory body offered its premises to both parties who met in Yaoundé on July 16, 2015.

Representatives of the legal cable had amongst them the new Director General of Canal + Cameroon, Mireille Kabamba, accompanied by African officials of the Group.

Canal + is ready to make commercial offers for the redistribution of its channels by local operators in Cameroon. But the French group demanded that these partners adhere to the law and the rules of competition.

Local operators should create international TV channels encryption systems with no license to broadcast in Cameroon or in sub-Saharan Africa. In reality, Canal + sees the Qatari Bein Sports group or even Super Sport of the South African operator, Dstv channel, as competitors.

It also requested the cable distributors in Cameroon to establish a transparent counting of subscribers. They must meet the deadlines for payment of the amounts agreed with Canal +. Piracy of the images must cease, whether on the internet or via digital decoders.
