Cameroon is yet to update its financial standing with ECCAS

Cameroon is part of the bad students of the Economic Community of Central Africa States (ECCAS) with what regards to finacial commitments.

This was revealed after a release of the institution at the end of a meeting in Libreville of the ambassadors of the 10 member countries on August 5, 2015.

On the 10 States in this sub-regional organization dedicated to the economic integration of the area, only three have given updates on their contributions; Congo Brazzaville, Gabon and Chad. According to this release, ECCAS has arrears of contribution of 31 billion CFca in 2014 (an increase of 164% over 2009).

In these circumstances, the general secretariat of the organization headed by Ahmad Allam-Mi dreads "the total or partial shutdown of programmes and projects, the threat of non-payment of the salaries of staff or even the closure of the institution,” he warned.

Created in October 1983, ECCAS comprises of Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo (Brazzaville), Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, DR Congo, Rwanda, Chad and Sao Tome & Principe.
