Cameroon heads toward the creation of an observatory for port tariffs

The National Port Authority (APN) announced the end of anarchy in the pricing of the port services in Cameroon, with notably the forthcoming establishment of an Observatory of the tariffs on port platforms of the country and outside, revealed during the presentation of a study to this effect.

"This approach aims to promote a better visibility in the port sector, while allowing it to have a better control of the rates and costs of port passage. This could be done by highlighting their different components and the levers that might influence it", said Josué Youmba, the Director of the APN.

According to the Minister of transport, Robert Nkili, thanks to this new tool, "the Government can follow the daily fluctuation of the tariffs applied in the port sector, and design a better tariff policy in this sector.

The APN also presents the future Observatory of port tariff as an instrument that could increase the competitiveness of the Cameroonian ports, which are often presented as part of the most expensive in Africa.
