Cameroon cocoa prices rise

Cocoa Cocoa

One month to the end of the 2014-2015 cocoa campaign in Cameroon, slated for July, the price of beans has increased to 1530 Cfa per kilogram in June as compared to 1200 Cfa francs per kilogram in May, 2015, revealed Système d’Information des Filières (SIF).

According to the analysis of Commodafrica, this new increase in the prices of cocoa in the country is a consequence of a feeble bargain. “Indeed, we are moving towards the end of the campaign and most producers have already distributed their productions. The few remaining cargo are bought at a gold price”.

Such improvement was already witnessed at the beginning of 2015, due to the dry season, which facilitated the supply and induced a tougher competition among buyers. But within a short time, a kilogram of beans was increased to 1220 Cfa francs compared to 1000 francs in the early period of the campaign and sold at 1530 francs Cfa currently.
