A break in the fiber optic has made it impossible, for the users in the three regions of the northern part of Cameroon (North, Adamawa and far North), to connect to the Internet or to wire the network reports for Cameroon telecommunications (Camtel) since June21, 2015.

In a statement signed on June 22, 2015, the incumbent operator of telecommunications in Cameroon attributed the breakdown of its network to a “partial rupture of the optic fibre cable on the right-of-way of the pipeline (Chad-Cameroon) between East and Adamawa regions, 45 km from the town of Kongolo”. According to Camtel, these disturbances have extended to "a part of neighbouring Chad”.

This is the umpteenth time the same incident have occurred with the Camtel network where some experts have blamed it on the unorthodox way the optical fibers were fixed; often buried a few feet underground in some places.

The telecom company assured the public that operations will return to normal "as soon as repair is completed” and also promised to bring "a definitive response to such incidents, very often linked to attacks by rodents, natural disasters or even deliberate iresponsible acts"
