10 vehicles acquired for decongesting exercise at Douala Port

DIT has acquired 8 port tractors, a carry cot and a lifting truck for a decongestion exercise intended to improve space, handling, and maintenance through the acquisition of empty containers.

A briefing note sent to our editorial, said that, dealers of the Port of Douala container terminal, approved Friday, May 8, 2015, eight (8) port tractors of last generation and a work basket. These newly acquired vehicles comes to strengthen and improve the quality of services of the terminal container.

The 8 port tractors, manufactured by the Dutch company TERBERG, European leader in the development of tractors to lift harness. Adapted to the transfer of containerized goods, these new devices will improve processing of ship operations, substantially reducing the waiting of time at the buoy base and improve the attractiveness of the Port of Douala.

Also, the carry cot (construction equipment used to facilitate access to an area of work at height) acquired by DIT will essentially allow them to perform maintenance on the dock gantries and gantry Park (RTG) safely.

Manufactured by HAULOTTE, French company specialising in the manufacture of the cherry pickers and loads, it will strengthen the capacity of DIT maintenance and improve the rate of availability of equipment.

Moreover, a lifting truck of empty containers has been approved by DIT. Brand FROM Konecranes, Finnish leader of manufacture of lifting equipment, this cart is intended to treat empty containers and store them in height (up to eight boxes). It will contribute to speed up the processing of vessels.

These acquisitions of $ 810 million Fcfa will increase productivity with as a corollary an improvement of fluidity.

At the end of April 2015 in fact, import and export parks occupancy rates dropped sharply under the combined effect of the transfer of containers in long stay and record volume of containers handled (20-foot equivalent 35.208 against 32.771 in December 2014).

Also, an increase in volumes (+ 4%) import and export (+ 31%) was recorded during the first four by 2015 compared to 2014.

DIT reaffirms therefore, the consistency of the measures it is implementing to improve the competitiveness of the Port of Douala.
