First Spelling Bee contest in Bafoussam April 6

Bafoussam will host the Spelling Bee competition for the first time, on April 6, at the Government Technical College, Canada Bafoussam.

Organised by the US Embassy in Cameroon in partnership with the Cameroon English Language and Literature Teachers Association, CAMELTA, the Spelling Bee will bring together nine schools from the Region with two candidates from each school.

Spelling Bee is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulties.

According to Edna Enyeyi, Reference Librarian, US Embassy, during the enlarged meeting in Bafoussam to provide material, objectives and rules of the competition and to educate coaches and other participants.

The Spelling Bee is part of the US Embassy's English language outreach programmes to enhance students' interest in English language proficiency, thus equipping them with skills necessary to access relevant information about the United States.

As the day draws near, coaches in the different schools are rounding up with their candidates who are eager to be like Akalee in 'Akalee and the Bee'.

According to Joshua Akemecha, CAMELTA West President, it is a wonderful opportunity that the US Embassy is giving to the students of the Region.

He invited the population to come and support the children, explaining that, even though only nine schools will participate in this maiden edition, the rest of the schools and the population at large is welcome to come and see what the students can do in terms of spelling from a wide range of words.
