Cameroon prepares for the Sambo World Championships

Forty athletes took part in the seminar organized this weekend in Yaounde.

After their success at the last African Championships, the National Sambo team began preparing for the world championships discipline starting from 24 to 29 November in Narita, Japan.

Participation in this tournament is part of the policy of "presence in all the activities organized by the International Federation and the Confederation of African sambo" advocated by François Mbassi, President of the Cameroon Federation Nanbudo (Fécana) in order to give more visibility to the discipline.

For this purpose, forty athletes took part in the seminar organized this weekend in Yaounde by the Fécana, which is also responsible for activities related to sambo.

"The preparation has been focused on the technical work and the rules of arbitration. In fact, athletes must master them to avoid making mistakes that would be harmful to them. The number of athletes to be selected for the World Championships will be decided according to the means available to us to go to this competition," says Mr. Belmond Alog, National Sambo coach.

Cameroon has already participated in the World Sambo Championships 2012 in Belarus and 2013 in Morocco. According to officials of the discipline in Cameroon, the new status of the country at the continental level carries hopes for a good performance in Japan.

During the next weekend, the samba members will once again gather for a national meeting to select those qualified. On the sidelines of readiness for the sambo world championship, the Fécana also organized a national training on nanbudo, coordinated by Pierre Tchoua, national technical director.
