Melong

Melong is a community in Cameroon. It lies on the N5 road to the north of Nkongsamba. The soil is volcanic and fertile. The countries around Melong were once covered by thick rainforest, but migration of Bamileke people into the region has caused much of this to be cleared for farming. Due to cultivation, the volcanic and Andosols (soils found in volcanic areas formed in volcanic tephra) are gradually evolving into ferralsols (Ferralsols or Oxisols have been previously classified as laterite soils).

In 1936, the Bishop Paul Bouque transferred the junior seminary to Melong. The first candidates from this seminary were accepted by the senior seminary at Mvolyé in 1940. Albert Ndongmo was admitted to the seminary at Melong in September 1940. He was to go on to become Bishop of Nkongsamba.
