National Assembly to open amid constitutional revision

Assemblée nationale Assemblée nationale

Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, President of the National Assembly, called on Monday, MPs to meet on Thursday, March 10, for the first session of the 2016 Legislative.
The March session is usually reserved for the renewal of the officers of the National Assembly.

This year's session takes place in a political context marked by various calls to change the constitution and the holding of early presidential elections.

Indeed, for several weeks, the country was shaken by calls from senior members of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM),the party in power that invite Paul Biya 83 years, including almost 34 in power to stand as candidate for an early presidential election, normally scheduled between September and October 2018.

According to experts, the authority will organize a constitutional amendment to revise downward, all presidential term, with the introduction of a post of Vice President and limiting the number of terms of the Head of State.
